In the movie, she played the sixth child and youngest daughter, Gretl von Trapp. Since the character's age was almost identical to Kym's actual age, her performance in the movie seemed particularly authentic.
Yes and no - Kym was only 5 years old during filming and her voice was still too young to reliably hit the required pitches. Although she sang along to all the songs on set, her voice was later replaced by that of a professional singer in some of the final vocal passages in the movie. In a later interview, Kym explained that while filming the song “So Long, Farewell”, she forgot the lyrics and was unable to sing the high notes, which is why her voice had to be dubbed there as well.
